Qualification purpose

This qualification is designed for those learners wishing to gain a nationally recognised qualification in event security operations.

The objective of the qualification is to prepare learners for employment as an event steward providing learners with knowledge, understanding and skills in health and safety, responding to a variety of situations during events, managing the movement of spectators, managing conflict situations, responding to emergencies and providing information and advice.

Course Overview

To achieve the qualification learners must achieve 7 Units:

  • Health and safety in the workplace
  • How to respond to occurrences during an event
  • How to manage the movement of people during an event 
  • How to reduce and manage conflict during an event
  • How to respond to emergencies during an event 
  • How to provide information and advice during an event 
  • Prepare for spectator events as an event steward

To complete the full qualification, you will also be required to undertake NACTSO’s ACT Awareness and ACT Security online modules through our e-learning platform.

Underpinning Knowledge workshops can be delivered in the classroom or through our online platform, NewGen Learning.  Your tutor/assessor will visit you in your place of work to undertake observation of practice and practical assessments around your normal working/placement patterns.

Assessment & Delivery method

You will be assigned a course mentor/tutor to work through an assessed portfolio of evidence. Online or classroom delivery is available for underpinning knowledge training.  Your course mentor/tutor will visit you in your place of work to support your development.

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL COURSE LOOK LIKE?

Pre Course – Action Counters Terrorism (ACT) Awareness – Online – 2 Hours

Course Day One – Theory – Classroom or Online – Full Day

Course Day Two – Theory – Classroom or Online – Full Day

You will also be invited to participate in scenario-based, interactive webinar sessions – details of which will be in the user area of your NGTC account

ONLINE LEARNING – NEWGEN LEARNING

In some cases, you may be able to complete your underpinning knowledge training online through our virtual learning environment, NewGen Learning.  In this instance, you will receive guidance via email on how to access and navigate the online platform.  If you require further assistance, please speak with your course tutor.

When booking, please allow time to undertake the initial assessments (15-20 minutes) and have copies of any supporting documents you wish to submit into us as part of your application.  This includes documents for funding (if applicable) and proof of an exemptions you may have (example – ACT certificates).

Progression

Learners should undertake further training and assessment of competence to obtain the Level 3 Certificate in Spectator Safety if wishing to continue in employment in the sector and will be expected by industry to have completed this within 12 months.
