From Classroom to Crowd Control: Skills Bootcamp Learners Shine at Barrow AFC Matchday
On Saturday, 16th November, our Skills Bootcamp learners joined the match day safety operation at Barrow AFC’s home fixture against Wimbledon. This hands-on experience was not only an invaluable opportunity for the learners to apply their training in a real-world setting but also an important step in supporting safe and enjoyable events across Cumbria.
During the day, the learners worked closely with the club’s safety team, gaining practical insights into managing large crowds and ensuring spectator safety. Additionally, our team collaborated with Barrow AFC’s Safety Officer as part of their journey towards the Level 4 Diploma in Spectator Safety Management.
Workplace-based learning is a cornerstone of our Skills Bootcamps. It allows learners to bridge the gap between classroom knowledge and practical application, building confidence and competence in real-world environments. The experience at Barrow AFC is just one example of how our programmes equip learners with transferable skills, preparing them for a wide range of roles in the leisure and tourism sector.
The qualifications achieved through our Skills Bootcamps are versatile and can be applied to a variety of events across the borough. From stadiums and racecourses to festivals, concerts, and other tourist attractions, our training supports the broader visitor economy in Cumbria by creating a skilled and adaptable workforce.
As Cumbria continues to host diverse events that draw visitors from across the UK and beyond, ensuring the safety and satisfaction of attendees is paramount. Skills Bootcamps like ours not only empower learners with the skills they need but also contribute to the region’s reputation as a vibrant and safe destination for leisure and tourism.
We are proud of our learners for their dedication and look forward to seeing their continued contributions to events across the county.
