Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is aimed at individuals who intend to develop and gain formal recognition of their knowledge, understanding and skills of first aid at work and who may be looking to become appointed first aiders in their place of work. The content of the qualification meets the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland (HSENI) requirements for training first aiders in those organisations that have identified that staff need to be trained to this level within their first-aid needs assessment.

By completing this qualification, you will also meet the mandatory entry requirements for the Level 3 Certificate for Close Protection Operatives in the Private Security Industry

Qualification structure

To achieve the qualification learners must achieve 2 Units

  • Unit 1: Emergency First Aid in the Workplace
    Practical Assignment & Portfolio of Evidence (Completed over course of 3 days)
  • Unit 1: Recognition and Management of illness and injury in the Workplace
    Practical Assignment & Portfolio of Evidence (Completed over course of 3 days)

If you are completing this as part of your SIA qualification we may ask you to complete or show evidence of completion of the ACT Awareness of ACT for Security Modules prior to undertaking this qualification.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible to undertake the emergency first aid at work qualification, candidates must be able to evidence the following

  • Candidates must be 16 years or older
  • Able to attend one of our training centres to undertake the practical observation

What does the Typical course structure look like?

Course Day One – Emergency First Aid at Work – Classroom – Full Day

Course Day Two – Recognition and Management of Illnesses and Injur – Classroom – Full Day

Course Day Three – Recognition and Management of Illnesses and Injury – Classroom – Full Day

What does this course cover

This course covers a wide range of topics relating to first aid which includes but is not limited to: Eye Injuries, Anaphylaxis, Poisoning, Heart attack, Stroke, Asthma, Diabetes, Seizures, Sprains, Fractures, Dislocations, burns & scalds, Choking and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Eligibility Details

In some cases we may be able to fund this course for you – for example, if your employer is a confirmed partner of NGTC.

This qualification is suitable for learner aged 16+ who meet the pre-course requirements listed on this page.
