NGTC at the Grand National: Supporting the Next Generation of Event Safety Professionals
NGTC were proud to be on-site again at this year’s Grand National, supporting and assessing learners in partnership with G4S— a valued industry partner. As one of the UK’s most prestigious and historic sporting events, the Grand National attracts thousands of spectators from across the country, making it a vital environment for real-world training and professional development in spectator safety and event security.
Held annually at Aintree Racecourse, the Grand National is more than just a sporting fixture; it’s a major operation requiring a highly skilled workforce. Given its scale and reputation, it draws in trained security teams from surrounding counties including Lancashire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Cheshire & Warrington, and beyond. The event provides the perfect setting to showcase and assess learners in action, applying their knowledge and skills in a fast-paced, high-profile environment.
Developing Talent, On the Ground
During the event, our learners were undertaking a range of regulated qualifications across Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4 Spectator Safety, alongside candidates from our funded Skills Bootcamp programmes. These nationally recognised programmes are designed to equip individuals with both the theoretical knowledge and practical experience needed to succeed in the dynamic security and events industry.

A Seasonal Milestone for Training and Events
The Grand National also marks a key point in the events calendar—the beginning of spring/summer greenfield events and agricultural show season, where outdoor, large-scale event management becomes a focal point for the industry.
Michael Needham, Managing Director of NGTC, shared his thoughts on the event:
“The Grand National is a cornerstone in the UK events calendar and one we’re proud to attend year after year. It’s not only a brilliant opportunity for learner assessment but also signifies the start of the busy event season, which includes everything from greenfield festivals to county agricultural shows. There’s a renewed energy at this time of year—the change in weather lifts morale and plays a real part in shaping the spectator experience. It’s rewarding to see our learners applying their training in such an iconic setting.”
Whether you’re an employer looking to upskill your team or an individual aiming to build a career in event safety, NGTC is here to support you with industry-leading training and real-world opportunities.
