New Spectator Safety Qualifications

Over the past 18 months, the SGSA has been leading a project on the development of new national occupational standards and qualifications for spectator safety.

This work is now coming to an end, with the launch of new qualifications from the start of 2021.

There will be six new qualifications in total, as follows:

– Level 2 Award Understanding Spectator Safety at Events (knowledge-based qualification)
– Level 2 Certificate Spectator Safety (competency-based qualification)
– Level 2 Certificate Spectator Safety (Physical Intervention) (competency-based qualification) (not expected until April 2021)
– Level 3 Certificate Spectator Safety Supervision (competency-based qualification)
– Level 3 Extended Certificate Spectator Safety Supervision (competency-based qualification)
– Level 4 Diploma Spectator Safety Management (competency-based qualification)

To support the delivery of the qualifications, the SGSA has launched a new education section of its website, which will hold information about the qualifications and the awarding qualifications.  This includes details of the current assessment strategy during COVID-19 and information on the individual levels.  The site also includes a new frequently asked questions page which addresses lots of the information asked about the qualifications.

Registrations for the existing qualifications will end on 31 December 2020. Registrations for the new qualifications will start from February 2021.
